Family Literacy Night
Hello SGE Parents, Guardians and Community Members,
As part of Family Literacy Week (January 21-28) Spring Glen Elementary will be hosting a Family Literacy Night on Tuesday January 23 from 5;30-7pm. We will have a light meal of hot dogs, hot chocolate and treats for all who attend. All families are welcome.
We will have donated books for all to browse and take home, some time to read together as a family, some literacy focused games to play and some information to share with parents about the importance of promoting literacy in the home. To make the evening a little more special, we will be dimming the lights in the gym, so we are asking parents to bring a flashlight or two to help create a cozy reading environment for you and your children. You are welcome to bring blankets and pillows as we will have all our gym mats out for you to use.
We will be announcing some other initiatives on the evening of the 23rd that the school will be promoting to encourage reading beyond our Literacy Night. There will be incentives for children with recognition and prizes that will continue throughout the year. It is our way of encouraging students to build their literacy skills to acknowledge their efforts.
The importance of literary cannot be overstated. Literacy forms the bedrock of all other skills and is the basis for success both in school and in life. As an elementary school and school council, we feel there is no greater skill that we can pass on to our children. We look forward to seeing you and your family for our Family Literacy Night.
Kind Regards,
Terry Heaney - Principal
